Counselling for adults

Counselling with me is about building a relationship of safety and trust so that you can feel happy talking about whatever is troubling you.  I truly believe that we generally have it within ourselves to work through most of our problems but occassionally we just need a little extra support to sit alongside us and be there for us, maybe because we don't have much of a support network or perhaps don't want to feel like we are burdening our loved ones. Sometimes simply being heard, being able to tell your story, without fear, worry or judgement can give you the power and confidence you need to move forward with your life in the way you want.

My training has enabled me to deal with my own difficulties and challenges in life so that it doesn't become part of your counselling journey and we can focus completely on what you bring to the space. I strive to make sure there is no power dynamic within the space we choose (therapy room, online or outdoors) and this time is completely about you.

My aim is to provide a comforting, calm space where you feel able to let me in to your world and together we can walk through it.  You're free to bring a drink or a snack with you, curl up on the sofa and just talk or we can use the many different creative resources I have to help work through a particular problem.  I'm also able to arrange to meet you at a local park where we can 'walk and talk' or find a nice bench to sit on, providing on the weather of course and I also offer online sessions and email counselling.  People come to counselling for many different reasons and I've worked with lots of themes but sometimes it can also just be a safe place to offload or work through what you need to do to look after yourself.

 

Counselling for young people 

I work with all ages and enjoy doing so but I have a real passion for working with young people (from the age of 11 upwards) and helping them to grow into the person they want to be. 

I'm down to earth and not shocked easily and there is often a lot of humour involved in these sessions.  Being creative and having fun during these sessions can often make sharing difficulties easier and having your own space where you know you can literally say anything you want without judgement is very empowering.  Parents or carers are encouraged to come to the initial meeting but after that it is a space for the young person on their own unless they particularly want an adult with them.  We talk, draw, use clay & playdough, play games, paint, collage, play with Lego.  Some simply curl up on the sofa with a blanket and in the better weather we can make use of the garden space. Whatever makes the young person happy during their time works for me (although I do find slime slightly disgusting!)

As an ex Exams Officer, I do also have a particular niche around Exam stress and anxiety and also offer a specific six week course based around this - do ask me for more information about this.
