About me
Please see my directory listing with the counselling directory here - you can be safe in the knowledge that to be added to this listing, all checks on my qualifications as a counsellor have been made.
I've also trained in other ways of supporting and helping people to manage their difficulties.
Things like working creatively with clay, art, Lego, cards among a few things and I'm also a qualified Clay Conversations Practitioner. I regularly take part in training to keep my knowledge as up to date as possible in topics such as safeguarding, neurodivergence, suicidal ideation & self-harm, trauma, chronic pain & illness, bereavement and more.
My initial training placements took place in a secondary school and a local hospice and once qualified I prioritised my work at the Youth Intervention Centre, a local counselling service initially set up to work with children and young people and then later expanded into supporting all ages.
I successfully co-ran this business for seven years and now run a small private practice from my home.
When I'm not busy with my clients, I like to be out in nature; walking on Dartmoor and Devon's lovely woodlands and attempting to manage my garden (not very effectively!). I live with an auto immune condition and try to carefully balance my work with my downtime so I will also spend time resting, watching Netflix and playing games - board games, computer games and the occasional escape room. I'm a big believer in all ages continuing to play and having fun!
Hi, I'm Kerry and I am an integrative counsellor, supervisor and clay conversations practioner working with children, teenagers and adults in the Ivybridge area and online.
I'm trained in several main modalites; Person Centred, Gestalt & CBT. Briefly, Person Centred therapy is pretty much what it sounds like, where you are the focus of our work and you get to bring what you want to our sessions and guide the process. Gestalt therapy tends to look at you as a whole; mind, body, emotions and spirit and focuses on you in the present moment. What's happening for you right now, what's keeping you stuck and how can we move forward from that. CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) helps you to identify, challenge and change unhelpful and negative thoughts, feelings and behaviours and can sometimes involve work outside of the therapy room in the form of worksheets or reflective exercises.
